Kennebec Lake Fishing Info

Kennebec Lake is the perfect lake for the beginner as well as the avid fisherman. The fish are not hard to find and for the most part fairly easy to catch. Now on the other hand the big fish can take some time to catch, knowing the lake, where to fish, what to use and how to present the lure to attract larger fish, is in the experience of the fisherman. One of the best ways to get to know the lake and guarantee you fish is to sign up for a guided fishing tour with Springwood's pro fishing staff. Learn all the best places on Kennebec Lake to catch the fish, whether you want to do some bass fishing, pike fishing, pickerel fishing or pan fish fishing, it is all here at Springwood Cottages and Kennebec Lake. Springwood offers guided fishing charters that not only guarantee your catch, but is very educational as well. For the avid fisherman the lake provides a multitude of fishing environments including deep 100 ft holes, shallow bays, rocky shores and river fishing. Spend the entire day trolling from one end of the lake to the other and enjoy the spectacular scenery of the 19 mile long lake or jump from fishing spot to fishing spot testing out the various fishing locations around the lake.
Springwood Cottages and the fishing on Kennebec Lake, has been featured on Bass Canada as one of Ontario's top cottage and fishing locations, after doing a lodge review of our establishment. We also had the pleasure of being added as a Secret Fishing Spot, with Secret Spot Adventures.
Keep reading to find out more about the fishing on Kennebec Lake and see the fish that have been caught here in the past few years.
Keep in mind...During our spring and summer seasons there is a “pro” fishing guide ready to help you get your limit of fish?

Spring Fishing

Come and enjoy the spring fishing, which usually includes Pickerel/Walleye and Northern Pike. Take advantage of our spring and fall specials which include beginning and end of season fishing derbies. All fishing derbies will be posted on the Springwood Cottages web site. Complimentary sunset cruises, comfortable heated cottages and complimentary use of canoes, kayaks and pedal boats for our guests. Spring brings exciting fishing with quantities of fish being caught on a regular basis, as well as the larger sized fish are usually caught at this time of year. After a long winter the fish are hungry and ready to hit almost anything you place in front of them.

Summer Fishing

The summer adds Large and Small Mouth Bass and a variety of pan fish including hundreds of Blue Gill, Pumpkinseed and Perch. The Bass fishing on Kennebec Lake is known to be very aggressive throughout the summer months. With the weather being warm and comfortable for a large portion of the summer season, makes for many great fishing days. Consider trying your luck on a midnight Bass fishing tour on Kennebec Lake. Most people do not realize how productive Bass fishing can be in the middle of the night. if you get the pleasure of coming to visit Springwood Cottages and Kennebec Lake, try make a point to get out your top water lures (Jitter Bug, Zarra Spook and top water poppers work best) and head out late at night and throughout the middle of the night, you are sure to have a night filled with excitement. There is nothing like being out on the water when it is calm and quiet. All you hear is your lure coming across the top of the water, and then you will hear a big splash as the Bass come up and take the lure right of the top of the water. In most cases unless there is a bright moonlight out, you will not see the hit, but you will hear and feel it. Be careful not to try and set the hook when you hear the fish jump; wait till you feel tension on your line. If you try setting the hook early, the odds are you will yank the lure right out of the bass's mouth.
Do not forget your sunscreen, there is nothing worst than burning in the first couple days and have to miss out on some of the great fishing you will encounter on Kennebec Lake. Do not pass up the opportunity of getting a guided fishing trip by Cezar, it will surely be worth your while, if you are looking to catch quantities of fish.

Fall Fishing

The fall is another great time to go after the big fish; this is the time when fish are starting to fill up their bellies for the long winter that is ahead of them. We have found over the years that the largest fish usually get caught at this time of year. The most popular fish caught in the fall are usually the pickerel. The weather starts to get a little chilly especially in the evenings, so make sure you bring warm clothes.

Winter Fishing

The winter months bring the opportunity for ice fishing. The ice thickness is usually over 20 inches thick of solid ice. The most popular fish caught in the winter when ice fishing is, Pickerel, Pike, Perch, Whitefish, and lake hearing witch are too hard 2 catch in the summer time due to their “paper mouths”. We always suggest that you are prepared to dig out a bigger hole in the middle of your catch. Many times in the past ice fisherman have caught fish that have been larger that the hole they originally dug and ended up having to hack away to make a larger hole, while trying to keep their fish on the line. Needless to say it just adds to the excitement of ice fishing. Springwood Cottages also offers many other winter activities, besides ice fishing.

Springwood Cottages also offers an on-site fish-cleaning house, for the convenience of cleaning your days catch. Our fish cleaning hut also offers a freezer for keeping your fish frozen until you are ready to eat them or take them home with you. See more info on our fish huts here.
